Newbern Hardware & Furniture is conveniently located in the downtown area of Newbern Tennessee. Today Newbern has approximately 3,000 residents who call this peaceful small town home. Newbern is home to 10 manufacturing companies employing approximately 2,000 people.
Newbern Hardware and Furniture recently celebrated its 101st year of continuous operation. For more than a century, we have been committed to providing great customer service at very competitive prices. Newbern Hardware has occupied the same building for over 50 years. We are proud to say that not many changes have taken place with the building since the Presidency of Truman. This charm does provide for a great shopping atmosphere. Customers still walk the same wooden floor as those in the past.
Daily patrons come from far and near to purchase routine items as well as to tour our store. Many remark of the vintage items on display and the nails in the floor used for measuring rope. However, don't let this laid back environment fool you. Newbern Hardware is operating in the 21st century with up to date inventory control, just-in-time deliveries, and extremely competitive pricing.
Many small towns can boast of a square but very few can boast of a town triangle. The hardware store anchors one of the corners of the triangle and is situated opposite from Newbern Train Depot. The Depot was constructed in 1920 to replace the original building which burned in 1918, and serves Newbern and Dyer County as railroad museum, dinner theater & arts activity center, as well as a working train station for Amtrak .
Purchased by the city in 1990, it has been lovingly restored to its original form through private and corporate donations. The Newbern Depot is one of nineteen stops made by the "The City of New Orleans" passing through the heart of the town in the early morning hours on its 900 mile scheduled journey from Chicago to New Orleans. Every September the residents and neighbors from surrounding areas gather to celebrate Depot Days. This week long annual event is centered around the historic depot.
